While searching for reference I have found a sentence on the Coda site : "Finale can import Sibelius files converted through Music XML with varying degrees of success ".įor me, a file format exist when I can find files in this format. We had recently a discussion about using Music XML as the standard file format ( action=displ ay num=1082032591 start=15)įrom my knowledge, Sibelius or Finale need an external converter to import/export XML.

I do not know if MusicXML is suitable for including "audio" data - that is, anything other than staff notation. So, it would be necessary to use a compressed format. The proportion of characters taken by XML tags is much greater than the proportion taken by content information. In uncompressed (plain text) format, MusicXML files are very large. However, if Myriad does decide to invesitigate: I have no opinion on the value of file transfer using MusicXML. Maybe, this could be the begining of XML implementation in HA.

Personally, unless getting a clone of Finale's Speedy Entry data entry, I prefer it over any other program's method for effeciency and versatility of input, besides Finale's other input methods such as cutting/pasting from other files (including MIDI), and its HyperScribe and Simple Entry Tools. That allows the most compatibility between platforms and applications, besides which MakeMusic's Finale support it, which I also use I'd recommend MA and HA support the Music XMLformat.
